Our season: Vata
-
The practice of Ayurveda involves customizing treatment to an individual’s unique constitution, or prakriti. These constitutions, called doshas, are derived from the five elements of nature and fall into three categories: Vata (wind and air), Pitta (fire), and Kapha (earth and water).
We are now in Vata season, when nature carries cold, dry, and mobile qualities. These can leave us feeling scattered, depleted, or ungrounded. Common Vata imbalances, which are often heightened in winter, include bloating, anxiety, insomnia, and dryness of the skin and hair. To bring balance, Ayurveda prescribes grounding, warming, and nourishing foods and herbs. This season is an invitation to turn inward, nourish deeply, and honor the body’s need for rest and grounding.
-
We are sipping CCF tea (cumin, coriander, fennel) enhanced with calming chamomile and warming ginger, and infusing our water with star anise, cinnamon, and orange. Khichdi is an important meal for this time of year, with hearty root vegetables and warming spices such as cumin and mustard.
-
We are gently cleansing to support the microbiome, clear away accumulated toxins, and restore the body’s natural balance for optimal health of body and mind. At the spa, we are offering our Restorative Vata Pacifying Ritual, which includes warm oil Abhyanga, lavender coconut milk rice boluses, Shirodhara bliss therapy, and abdominal massage. All of our bodywork incorporates nourishing organic sesame oil infused with dosha-balancing essential oils.
